Streamline your Web Design Workflow in Sketch
Here on the A-team, Sketch is our choice for web design, social media graphics, and basically anything else we make for screens. Sketch is a vector-based program created and optimized for user interface and web design, boasting incredible designer-developer collaboration and capabilities. Plugins are a fantastic way to add functionality, automate tedious work and add in customizable features to the program. Created by Sketch’s large developer community, our team has adopted the following plugins over the years to streamline workflow and maximize output:
01 - ADA Compliance
Cluse
Accessibility is key when it comes to the web. Cluse is a game-changer when it comes to checking for color contrast in Sketch. It detects the size and thickness of text to give accurate readings for contrast ratios, so that your sites will pass any accessibility test.
02 - SPELLING
Spell Check Whole Page
Like many application-based programs, Sketch doesn’t have a native, automatic spell-checker. Spell Check Whole Page will save you time on both proofreading and easily-missed spelling errors. With just a click of a button it can check the entire page; perfect for less back and forth edits.
03 - SYMBOLS
Symbol Instance Renamer
If you’ve ever worked with symbols in Sketch you know how disruptive it is when you swap out or rename a symbol. Suddenly, all of the symbol instances throughout the file have mismatched names and can cause confusion / miscommunication when developers are in the file. Symbol Instance Renamer corrects all instances in one click. It’s perfect for design systems and complex, symbol-heavy files, especially when a shared, cross-team language is essential.
04 - NAMING
Rename It – Find & Replace
The Rename It plugin does it all, allowing layers and individual artboards to be renamed, either sequentially at a time or in a large batch. Our absolute favorite feature is the “Find and Replace” tool, which is perfect when name changes inevitably occur during the evolution of a project.
05 - OPTIMIZATION
SVGO
Site speed should always be top of mind. SVGs are another web element that can rack up on file size, causing poor performance. SVGO compresses SVGs, while structuring the code in a much more manageable way for FEDs – especially when changing CSS rules. The best part… you don’t have to do anything other than your usual export process.
06 - THIS ONE'S FOR YOU, JASON
Dad Jokes
And lastly our most important plugin… just kidding. BUT it is definitely a fun one! This plugin replaces selected text boxes with, you guessed it, Dad Jokes. It’s certainly an entertaining alternative to Lorem Ipsum placeholder content.
